What teeth whitening involves

The NHS says teeth whitening lightens the colour of your teeth using a gel and sometimes a laser. According to the NHS, home kits take 2 to 6 weeks. Laser treatment is completed in 1 appointment of around 1 to 2 hours, as stated by the NHS. Only natural teeth lighten, so crowns, dentures and implants do not change colour.

Who it may suit, and who should avoid it

The NHS says it can help with staining from ageing, coffee, tea, red wine or smoking. The NHS advises against whitening for people aged 17 or younger, people with unhealthy teeth or gums, and people who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Compare options in teeth whitening at the dentist or with home kits.
