What a check-up involves

A dentist examines your teeth, gums and mouth at a check-up. The dentist asks about your general health and any problems since your last visit. The dentist also asks about diet, smoking, alcohol and how you clean your teeth, then suggests a date for your next visit, according to the NHS.

How often you may need one

The NHS states that the time between check-ups can vary from 3 months to 2 years, depending on how healthy your teeth and gums are. People with problems usually need to attend more often. Leaving a problem untreated can make it harder to treat later.
